Getting Romantic in Roanoke

Written by Lucy Collins

Valentine’s Day is only a few short days away, but because of the pandemic, thinking of romantic activities may be frustrating or difficult. But no need to worry because there are many outdoors and socially distanced activities romantic partners can embark on around the Roanoke area. Couples who love outdoor activities may be attracted to the numerous trails and parks around the Roanoke area. These trails and parks consist of Carvins Cove Natural Reserve, Bottom Creek Gorge, Dragon’s Tooth, McAfee Knob, or the Mill Mountain Star and Park. These outdoor activities are an excellent way to spend quality and personal time with a significant other while taking in the breath-taking views as well as getting in some exercise!

Couples who are not as keen on outdoor activities may be interested in going to a vineyard or brewery (if you’re both 21+ of course). A prominent brewery in the Roanoke area is Big Lick Brewing Company, which offers food and drink. A vineyard that has a beautiful outdoor landscape is Vahalla Vineyards, where they also offer food and drink. These two places may offer a more intimate setting for partners to share laughs and private conversation.

Another intimate, but perhaps more expensive location, would be to dine at the Hotel Roanoke for a romantic brunch. The Hotel Roanoke is one of Roanoke’s major attractions that provides a lovely atmosphere for couples to spend time with each other. If these attractions may not interest some couples, perhaps some alone time wherever the couple may be, would suffice as a romantic Valentine’s Day. Here is to hoping that all couples on the Roanoke College campus have a wonderful and love-filled Valentine’s Day, and good luck with the beginning of the spring semester!
