With Halloween right around the corner and the festivities that come along with it, what better way to spice up the occasion with a BOO-zy drink! Keep in mind, this article is for witches and warlocks who are 21+. A fun thing to do to keep the mind off the possible lack of Halloween parties or large group gatherings is to tuck in with a small group of friends and get spooky with a festive Halloween-themed drink! The following recipes were selected from the article “45+ Easy Halloween Cocktails That’ll Delight Your Costume Party Guests,” written by the Country Living Staff, featured in the September 2020 issue of Country Living Magazine. A fun recipe to consider would be a liquid web drink. This drink includes 3 oz. chocolate liqueur, 3 oz. coffee liqueur (such as Kahlua), 2 oz. milk, lightly sweetened whipped cream, ice and pumpkin spice or nutmeg. Dress this drink up with a spooky plastic spider to make it even more festive! A more elegant and fun drink would be a pomegranate-rum punch. This sparkling spiced drink contains 4 hibiscus tea bags, 1 small cinnamon stick (smashed), 1 c. pomegranate juice, 1 c. spiced rum, ½ c. fresh blood orange juice (include slices for serving), 1 bottle of prosecco (can substitute with other sparkling wine) and pomegranate seeds for serving. This punch is great for a smaller gathering, possibly around a campfire or an outdoor setting! This next drink is a spooky take on a Bloody Mary, coined the Bloody Mummy. This recipe contains 2 cups tomato juice, 1 ½ teaspoons wasabi paste, 2 teaspoons soy sauce, 1 teaspoon shichimi togarashi, 2-3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, 5 oz vodka or gin, celery salt, celery stalks, pickled green beans, carrot sticks and string cheese. The secret ingredient for this drink is the string cheese, as it makes the drink look as if there are white mummy wrappings intertwined with the tomato juice—a nice spooky twist to a classic drink! These drinks should add a special side of spooky to Halloween festivities that are creeping right around the corner. Have a happy and safe Halloween!
