In a new and creative way of expressing gratitude during the Thanksgiving season, Rooney’s Brews in Fintel Library unveiled “The Giving Tree” in the week prior to break. From Monday. Nov. 18 through Monday, Nov. 25, students had the opportunity to show appreciation for faculty and staff by writing their name and nomination on a paper leaf and placing it on a papier-mâché tree.
One leaf was randomly pulled from the tree on Tuesday, Nov. 26, and both the winning student and the staff or faculty member they nominated were rewarded with gift cards. Sophomore Elaine Presley was selected as the winner. She received a 25 dollar AllSports Café gift card. Teresa Hancock-Parmer of RC’s Modern Languages Department was the lucky faculty winner, and she received a 50 dollar Awful Arthur’s gift card.
Though only one leaf was chosen as a winner, there are several nominations worth mentioning. Shannon Anderson of the Sociology Department received the greatest number of leaves, totaling eight nominations. David Scaer of the Modern Languages Department received the second highest number of leaves, totaling 5 nominations.
As the holiday season approaches, it is worthwhile to reflect on the people, places, and things in life that make us feel grateful for being alive. Consider taking the time to thank the faculty and staff who work hard to give you a fulfilling and enjoyable college experience. Rooney’s Tree of Thanks will return next November, but you don’t have to wait to give thanks to the people who make us smile!
