Ho Ho Ho, Christmas Music, When to Play it- You Should Know

Written by Devon Mitchell

As spooky season has just come to an end, many people are turning in the Monster mash for Frosty the Snowman. Spooky ghost sounds are being replaced by jingle bells. Immediately after Halloween ends, Christmas begins. Although as a society we’ve begun celebrating Christmas earlier and earlier, Christmas is still two months away! So what’s the rush? There’s still a lot of time and it seems like we’re just bypassing the rest of fall. Does Thanksgiving even exist?

The worst part about celebrating Christmas in November is the music. On November 1st, until December 25th it seems like everyone is listening to Mariah Carey. I feel as though the first few weeks of November are far to early for Christmas music. Honestly, anything before Thanksgiving seems too early. Playing Christmas music too early is a representative of how much capitalism has taken over a season meant for charity, loved ones and being together. In my not so expert opinion, I believe an acceptable time to begin listening to the very merry jingle bells music, is the day after Thanksgiving. By that time the fall festivities are over, we’ve all gone through a turkey induced coma, and the Christmas season has actually begun. Although I say this, I’d be lying if I said I don’t listen a little to the Christmas station on Spotify. I get upset with myself, but the Christmas season is so tempting. Don’t get me wrong, I still believe that Christmas is a December holiday, but there’s something so happy about Christmas music. It puts you in a good mood.

What I’m trying to say is, if you really feel happier listening to Christmas music in November, who am I to tell you that’s wrong. Christmas is a time of happiness and joy and sometimes we need it earlier than Thanksgiving. So I won’t be a Grinch and tell you it is socially unacceptable. Do what makes you happy, just remember Thanksgiving.
