Starting her senior season, Mara Briggs has set some big goals for herself. “I hope to be All-American again, and the big dream would be to win a national championship. I’m training for it, so I am hopeful,” Briggs said. As for being OCAC Athlete of the Week for this week, “it’s nice to have recognition for the work I have put in,” said Briggs.
This past weekend, Briggs and her team competed at the Kaydet invitational in Lexington, Virginia where they faced mostly Division One teams. “There were 35 other high jumpers, and I placed fourth. I actually like competing in these big meets more because there’s harder competition which forces me to do my best. I want to put a good name out there for Roanoke College and my team,” Briggs said.
In order to represent the school well and ensure success throughout the season, Briggs jumps twice a week, does drills twice a week, runs once a week, and lifts three times a week. As a senior she has taken on a leadership role. “I try to get everybody going and be positive so that way as a team we can, hopefully, win ODACs,” Briggs said.
