The Musical Extravaganza is an amazing annual event hosted by CAB during Family Weekend. On the evening of Sept. 29, many of the musical groups, instrumental and vocal, on campus gathered together to premier their new members and ensemble sounds for their family and friends.
Despite illness among some of the participants due to the typical illness that most students contract was being passed around campus, Roanoke musicians embodied the classic phrase: the show must go on!
Jazz ensemble performed first and played several pieces, including a remarkable rendition of “Route 66.” Following, The Roanotes displayed their a cappella talent and featured soloists. AJ Waddell brought down the house with her solo in their arrangement of Banks’s “Better.”
Oriana performed thirdly. The women’s group sang two songs, one of which was a fun medley of songs from “Fiddler on the Roof.”
Mainstreet maintained the girl power with lovely voices and harmony, ending their set with a classic cover of “Amazing Grace.”
To conclude the show, the Roanoke College A Cappella Choir performed. Their set included a medley of songs from “West Side Story.” The women sang “We Are Family” for the finale, an appropriate move for family weekend.
Despite obstacles, the musical groups pressed onwards in the true spirit of music and performance, putting on their best show and singing from their hearts.
