It is with the heaviest of hearts that I, alongside millions, am struggling to come to terms with the reality of the recent passing of the most dope – Mac Miller. An incredible musician who specialized in hip-hop/rap and unique beats, and also starred in a reality television series, died on Sept. 7, 2018 after a reported drug overdose.
Miller began his career at the age of 14 and produced music all the way up to approximately one month before his death, when he released his final album titled “Swimming.”
There is much speculation about the months leading up to his untimely passing and causes that could have potentially contributed to it.
However, while the blame can be tossed around, I believe that there are two things that should be of paramount focus at this time. Firstly, his music. Miller dropped five studio albums and 12 mixtapes throughout the duration of his career. His utilization of a wide variety of sounds/instruments allowed him to create a ~dope~ culmination of music. Fan or not, it is an undeniable fact that Miller acquired a musical talent seldom found elsewhere.
Secondly, drug abuse is an increasing epidemic across the globe, yet is consistently topped in news and media by politics and other various mediums of entertainment. But that’s an article for another time.
