We have officially finished three weeks into the semester and are heading into our fourth. It doesn’t seem like a huge milestone, but I will tell you why I am making such a big deal of this. The first week of classes is syllabus/introduction week. You get to meet your professors, struggle to remember where your classes are, introduce yourself to your classmates, and overall get a sense of what this semester will bring.
The second week of class expands on those expectations; you still have time to drop any course, and with 4/5 class periods finished and under your belt, you can make an informed decision about what you want your schedule to look like. It also gives you more insight into your professor’s teaching techniques and the way they organize and schedule assignments.
The third and fourth week is a time to find your flow. At which time will you study or do assignments for particular classes? How will you use your free time between classes? Which places on campus do you feel more productive at? This is the time during which you are building your own day-to-day life during this semester. It is also the time for you to consider what is working or not. Is a planner effective for your way of organizing your assignments? Are the notes you are taking in classes, if any at all, helpful and detailed enough?
There is plenty of time ahead to make the best of your spring semester. Think about how you felt during these first three weeks and make changes if needed to help yourself thrive.
