New Teams, New Beginnings

Lacrosse season for both Men’s and Women’s teams started a couple of weeks ago, and are off to a great start! Both teams are undefeated on the season, with their records being 3-0 for the Men, and 1-0 for the Women. The Women’s team is also ranked #11 in the country for D-3 lacrosse. This is quite exciting for this season of lacrosse, and our men’s team is hoping to also join the women on the top 25 list. Even though our women’s team does not have as many people as a normal lacrosse team, they’re ready to make every game count.

The Men have had three games with the first being a close match-up against the University of Mary Washington. The score was 12-10, but the first quarter proved to be vitally important in the Maroon’s success. #41, Luke Kammerman, a fifth-year attack scored the first point of the season just 17 seconds into the game. His brother, a junior Julian, also scored one point in the game against Mary Washington. Two other Maroons also had a big scoring game, namely Luca Docking and Clayton Bewick who both completed a hat trick (three goals). The other two games the men have played have proved to be no challenge, as we sailed by both Southern Virginia and Averett. The men will play three times over Spring Break, and we wish them all the best of luck!

The Women’s lacrosse team also started their season opener with a boom, scoring three goals in the first five minutes of the game. Senior Grace Koutouzis made the start to her final season a memorable one, scoring seven points throughout the game. This stat almost beats her career record of eight points. Another notable Maroon for this nationally ranked team is Kendall Todd, a goalie. She had eight saves on the day against Kenyon College, as well as some other notable stats. Her great game (and her first career start) helped the Maroons to a victory on the road. Roanoke College will have to continue to thrive as their next four games are not present in sunny Salem. Nothing can stop these girls though, and if anyone can do it, it’s the nationally ranked Maroons team!
