Our Maroon athletes within the Basketball department have been absolutely killing it as of late! Continuing onward the Men’s Basketball ODAC journey, they haven’t let their loss from Randolph-Macon discourage them from making it out on top. If anything, it’s only been used for fuel to continue having more successes with each upcoming game.
On February 5th at our very own Cregger Center, Maroon Madness was held. Men’s Basketball was up against Guilford College, a promising opponent. Although they gained a slight lead at 15-13, the Maroons began to pick up the pace with their swishes and ended up racking more and more points. Some stars such as Portner Stanley managed to reach his career high of 12 points alongside six rebounds, contributing towards victory. Eventually, the Maroons made it out on top with a final score of 78-53, blowing Guilford College out of the water.
Women’s Basketball has also been carrying an insanely impressive four-time win streak throughout their ODAC season up until Maroon Madness, where they faced off against Ferrum College. Also held in the Cregger Center on February 5th and the opener for the event, Noke was strongly holding their ground throughout this ferocious match-up. Star players such as Paige Breuer reached high up in the double-digits by scoring 18 points, alongside Ashley Fowler who swished a close 14 points right behind. In the end, the Maroons won again with a 63-57 final score, putting them at a five-win streak. At the time of this writing, the Women’s Basketball team has since popped off with a whopping seven-win streak, placing them fifth in ODAC. Men’s Basketball is currently placed at third in ODAC as well. Go Maroons!
