Throughout the winter, the Roanoke Men’s Basketball team has been absolutely dominating the ODAC season thus far. Their first game was against Bridgewater College on January 4th, starting off the season strong with a 70-48 finish. Their defense in this match was exceptionally impressive, with star players such as Jackson Bell scoring 15 points throughout the game. Next up was their match against Averett University on January 8th in Danville, Virginia. The second time around was a bit more stressful for the Maroons, however their perseverance and stellar teamwork eventually led to a winning score of 75-55. Joshua McClary was a leading man this time around, also scoring 15 points overall with five assists. Continuing onward, Noke was starting to develop a win-streak, however their next opponent proved quite a challenge. The next matchup was against Virginia Wesleyan University on January 11th, right here on our home campus in Cregger. It was full of intensity, back to back swishes from either team eagerly trying to keep the lead with the Maroons taking the first half. Gavin O’Malley carried impressive results throughout the half, scoring nine points throughout. Luckily in the second half, the Roanoke Men’s Basketball team clutched their third win in a row throughout the ODAC season with a close winning score of 77-67. Although already impressive enough, the men were about to face their biggest challenge yet this season. The most recent match was against Shenandoah University on January 15th, up in Lynchburg. This was their fiercest match yet, with both teams ferociously competing for victory. Near the end, the Maroons were about to lose, but that night history was made. With only 0.2 seconds left on the clock, Jackson Bell shoots a three-pointer come-back that ends the game with a winning score of 80-79, causing an uproar of shock and amazement. We are incredibly proud of our Maroons, and we can’t wait to see the Men’s Basketball team’s continued success in the future!
