Women’s Soccer: Powerful Brains and Braun

By Mariana Hanlin

As we delve deeper into this season, the women’s soccer team at ‘Noke has been practicing long and hard. They have continuously worked nonstop to become a wonderful team on and off the field, oftentimes enduring rigorous training regiments and nonstop practices to keep themselves in tip-top shape. At Roanoke’s last home game, the Lady Maroons tied with the Southern Virginia Lady Knights with a score of 1-1, a very tense and thrilling match that eventually ended with a solid tie. Roanoke made an appearance on the scoreboard early in the game and kept going strong throughout, providing a formidable defense paired with impressive team coordination. Student MC Petrucelli fought incredibly hard and scored an incredible goal only 6:48 minutes into the whole game! Receiving such a goal so early within the match is an amazing feat, but when it comes to our amazing women’s soccer team, it’s no surprise.

Continuing onward, Roanoke outshot Southern VA. 19-2 and led 6-1 in corner kicks. Even though these women have a 4-2 roster at the moment, they don’t and never will give up. Each and every player works exceptionally hard to grow and improve as much as they can in-between each game they play. The Maroons even earned an award called the “College Team Academic Award” through the United Soccer Coaches (USC) organization! In order to win this, the team must earn a collective 3.0 or higher GPA, and the Maroons finished with an impressive 3.51 team GPA! Keep at it, Maroons!
