The most popular costume at Roanoke College according to students on campus this year was The Joker! Batman’s green-haired nemesis seemed to have taken over Roanoke this Halloween, with multiple reports of Jokers seen over Halloweekend and on Halloween! Google Trends reports “The Joker” as being their 40th most searched costume of 2023. Another highly popular costume was a trio, and riff

More popular costumes this year included dressing up as “Bald People”, meaning bald fictional characters, as well as real people, using bald caps to simulate the look. Within this category, the two choices that seemed to stand out above the crowd were Walter White, the main character of the American television series “Breaking Bad”, which has recently gained a new audience in young adults now old enough to appreciate the shows themes, as well as American rapper and musician Pitbull, Mr. Worldwide himself.
In fact, a pack of three nearly identicalPitbulls was spotted making their way around campus this weekend. Gru, the main character of the animated “Despicable Me” film series, was also present at Roanoke College. Of course, it would not be the year of Barbie without the icon herself making the list. Google Trends lists “Barbie” as their number one most searched Halloween costume this year, as well as the most searched Halloween costume in the state of Virginia, in addition to being the most searched costume in Roanoke.
Barbie costumes were some of the most popular this year.
On campus, students dressing up as their professors on Halloween day was also popular, with many wearing these costumes to their professor’s class. Wizard costumes, complete with fake, snow white beards and long, dark robes, were also popular on Halloween day, and perfect for the weather too.
