The Roanoke baseball team kicked off their season in late February, seeing a 13-9 overall record with their recent win against Guilford College. Playing eight conference games, the boys sit at sixth place in the ODAC with a 4-4 conference record. Recently, the team has been on a winning streak, seeing 4 wins against notable ODAC teams such as Ferrum College and Washington & Lee University. The team has hit a total of 20 home runs this season, with a batting average of 30.4%. This week the Maroons had an impressive recovery against Guilford College, having 14 runs in the eighth inning to achieve a 23-15 win. Entering the bottom of the eighth down by 7 runs, the team was able to pull ahead to lead by 8 runs.
While the team has seen tough losses in the beginning of their season, there are some notable players contributing to the team’s conference accomplishments. PK Cocolis, catcher, and Owen Lawn, first base and outfielder, are tied at sixth in the ODAC for home runs. Gardner Meeks, pitcher, is tied at fourth for wins as pitcher with 4 wins in conference play.
The Maroons have 12 senior athletes hoping for a victorious season to end their baseball career here at Roanoke. These senior athletes include Evan Parks, Austin Bansek, Chris Dudley, Ryan Cloude, Tanner James, Will Smith, Jeb Byerley, Hunter Andrews, Luke Estep, Casey Rosenthal, Jarrett LoRusso, and PK Cocolis. Continuing their season, the Maroons have a double header against ODAC opponent Shenandoah University on Saturday, April 2 at Shenandoah.
