The Concert Comeback of 2021

Written by Marisa Seager

I don’t know about you, but the one thing I’ve missed the most since the start of the pandemic has been live music. Since the year 2014, I personally have been attending shows and festivals as regularly as every month. So, not having been to a concert since mid-December of 2019 is a far stretch for me. I’m ready to start attending and shooting them once again!

With the introduction of the COVID-19 vaccine and progression of the country, concerts are finally beginning to be scheduled again. Meaning, some of the shows that were canceled this past year are being rescheduled and we can now look forward to even more lineups than before. Mark your calendars! This is only the beginning of getting back to our pre-COVID festivities.

Here’s five essential items that you’ll want to bring with you:

  1. The Right Clothing

Whether it’s going to be hot or cold, it’s still going to be crowded. Layers are key because you can always add or take away from what you’re already wearing. P.S. Don’t forget about sneakers! You’re likely to be standing and moving around for at least a few hours and nothing is worse than sore feet when the night is still young.

  1. Card or Cash

This one is entirely based on your preference. I, for one, prefer to bring cash to events to protect my bank account in more ways than one – from overspending and possible fraud.

  1. Hair Tie

If your hair is long, or even the hair of one of your friends, you might want to keep one on your wrist just in case. What can I say? There’s nothing wrong with being prepared.

  1. Your Phone

This one goes without saying! Just don’t forget to bring it with a full charge in the case that you want to take photos, record videos, or find your friend among the crowd.

  1. Tickets

Of all things, you can’t forget your ticket. Note that some venues only take printed tickets, while others might scan it on your phone, so it’s a good idea to check beforehand.

While these are only the essentials, some people, including myself, also like to bring some of the following items:

  • A sealed water bottle (if the venue allows it)
  • Gum and/or mints
  • Earplugs to protect your ears
  • A sharpie for autographs
  • A portable charger

Despite the vaccine providing hope that things will start picking up like normal, you still might want to add some hand sanitizer or wipes to your concert pack, and probably even a mask depending on what regulations are like.
