Roanoke Opens New Eatery Along Main Street

Written by Jack Miller

Roanoke College has filled the empty lot that used to be student-loved smoothie stop Fruitions. The College has been making arrangements over the summer to replace the building with the chain – Freshens, a national brand popular on college campuses. The chain’s menu boasts many healthy alternatives that are relatively affordable for student’s living on campus.

Roanoke College’s location will take both Maroon Card and cash options. The store also has plans to offer an online ordering system to limit contact during the pandemic. Additionally, the College and the city of Salem have worked together to add increased seating outside along main street across from West Hall.

For those who are saddened by Fruitions closing, don’t worry! Freshens offers a variety of smoothies and wraps to fill that void. Along with these healthy options the restaurant also serves flatbreads, salads, and signature rice bowls. The store will be following COVID-19 guidelines and have a capacity requirement set by the College – to assist with this the store will have socially distanced seating and lots of outdoor space. The staff are working to make the space safe and welcoming to student’s and locals alike. Freshens Fresh Food Kitchen is set to open later this fall in 2020.
