The CoLab in Roanoke was host to a reception for six RC filmmakers on Tuesday, April 2 for the Fourth Annual Basically Tarantino Film Festival. Filmmakers, actors, fans and RC faculty enjoyed the event held by CAB before heading over to the Grandin Theatre for the screening of the films and the announcement of the film awards.
“This [event] shows that there’s an interest in filming, and people want to make films, write films, and they want to learn to do it properly,” sophomore Zachary Dalton said, the host and emcee of the evening’s festivities.
Among the other winners of the evening, Justin Patton’s dramatic film, Shine Your Light, won the Audience Choice Award, decided upon by the results from the vote that was held at the Tarantino premier in the ballroom last week.
“If anyone is interested in Screen Studies, I strongly encourage you to come out next year and participate in the fifth Basically Tarantino,” Dalton said. “It’s a really great event that’s put on, with a lot of brilliant films.”
All six of the films from this year’s festival will be uploaded to the Maroon Matinee YouTube channel, with other Basically Tarantino films from the last few years.
