The Men’s and Women’s track and field teams are both still early on in their long season, but hope to improve upon their performance last week in the Keydet Invitational. The Kaydet meet brought about several top ten finishes, including freshmen Chamberlain Zulauf ranking eighth in the 5000M, and Lindsey Baxter tying for 15th in the pole vault. These performances, along with many others, set the Maroons on their way to success as the season goes on.
This past week Mara Briggs, a senior High Jumper for the team, won ODAC Athlete of the Week honors for her results at the Keydet Invitational. She finished fourth overall, and first among Division III competition. She hopes to see her solid results continue at home this weekend, especially after winning her last competition in the Cregger Center.
As the teams return to compete at home this weekend in the Finn Pincus Invitational they will hope for success similar to the last time they competed in the Cregger Center. Along with Mara Briggs’ win, the teams saw Jayvon Jones set a new school record in the Men’s triple jump. The teams hope to build off of last week’s performance and shatter more records during their home meet this weekend.
Additionally, this meet has attracted many teams from around the ODAC including Shenandoah University and Washington and Lee University. Pole vaulter Kendall Sperber is looking forward to some new competition amongst athletes from many schools. “We have a lot of teams coming this weekend which will bring out some really strong competition that will motivate all of us to do our best,” Sperber said.
Come out to the Cregger Center this weekend to support our track and field teams.
