RC Women’s Lacrosse had a major 22-7 win on Feb. 10, and the season opened with a pretty even score pattern over nine different players.
High scorers include junior Katie Clements with four and freshman Ellie Armstrong, junior Jenn Schwechheimer, and senior McKenna Polak each with three.
The team scored 15 goals in the first half, seven of which went unanswered, spearheaded by a goal from Schwechheimer in the first two minutes. The team ended the half with a 15-5 lead over Methodist. Defense came out to play, only letting Methodist take 16 shots on goal while your Maroons took a total of 40 shots. They also held the advantage with groundballs at 18-14 and freshman Carly Schoudel made seven saves on goal.
Methodist didn’t stand a chance against these ladies. The women’s team plays again tomorrow, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. against Penn-State Abington. Come out and show your support at what is sure to be another fantastic game for your RC Maroons.
The RC men’s lacrosse kicked off their season with a 15-10 win over Colorado College on the Feb. 16. Freshman attacker Garritt Schwarz led scoring with eight goals and one assist. Freshman Owen Curry, sophomore Jason Sarro, and junior Brendan Devane each scored two goals with senior IV Stucker adding one more to round of the total of 15.
The first goal scored by Devane in the first two minutes of play set the tone for the Maroons. Back-to-back goals from Schwarz in the beginning of the second quarter gave the team a 4-1 lead until Colorado tied it up with three unanswered goals. Another goal from Schwarz gave Roanoke a 5-4 lead to end the half.
The second half started with Schwarz scoring two in the first minute and a half, setting off a streak of six goals by Schwarz in the third quarter, bringing the score to a solid 12-5 lead to end the quarter.
Colorado scored three more unanswered goals in the fourth quarter, closing the gap to 12-8, but that would be as close as they got. The men’s team plays again on Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. against Sewanee at Kerr Stadium.
