Remi Wolf’s “Mud” hit the music scene October 9, 2026, and it has left the music world shaking. For those who are not aware, Wolf is an American singer whose debut was a single in 2019 “Guy” with the EP “I’m Allergic To Dogs!” released in June 2020. She has since made indie-pop hits collaborating with artists like Dominic Fike (“Fake ID”, over 138 million streams on Spotify by the way) and most recently, John Mayer (“Moon So High”).
Her third studio album, “Mud,” takes listeners on a journey through adulthood and takes in change while learning from it. Of course, easier said than done, but Wolf showcases through this album how facing the chaos of the world is a risk but worthwhile. The cover itself says as much: drenched in a brown substance while grinning a toothy smile, embracing both the metaphorical and literal muck. Wolf blended disco, pop, and R&B into one with singles titled “Bottle,” “Twiggy,” and “I Won’t Cry.” The album has a total of 11 tracks, 43 minutes total.
“Jamie,” Wolf’s favorite song on the album, begins with spoken-word segments that narrates her murdering her lover, Jamie. The lyrics thrust listeners into feeling the push and pull of her drug-like addiction to her lover. With high belts in the chorus being mirrored by drums and synths, the musical fingerprint leaves a lasting print.
“I Won’t Cry” has blown up with fans on TikTok singing covers of the raw ballad. This devastation of her breakup and attempts to find peace resonated with fans alike and has amassed 4,973,220 streams on Spotify as of writing this article. The hoping for a lost love and the third hook having her voice be intensified? Peak yearning and broken pieces. The production throughout this song alone encapsulates the emotional turmoil Wolf showcases throughout the album.
There aren’t only heartbreaking ballads on this album; songs like “Wine Drunk” and “Burn Me Blue” showcase the Pop/R&B sounds fans are so familiar with. “Wine Drunk” is the bittersweet self-aware reality of staying in a doomed relationship simply because the rush feels good. Like the feelings of being under the influence, the paradox of the track keeps the audience engaged. “Burn Me Blue” sings about being completely done with playing games and exploring intense devotion in a relationship, hence why the drums and groovy beat keep fans alive. These upbeat yet devastating songs are only a small portion of the 43-minute album that has left fans in awe.
Please, I implore you to take a listen and even listen to other songs by the one and only, Remi Wolf.
