Men’s Volleyball portrayed a fierce display this past Tuesday in the Cregger Center, demolishing Averett University in all three sets. Although Averett began to pick up steam as each set progressed, the formidable Maroons respectively ended each in victory; the first being 25-14, second 25-19, and third 25-22.
The Cougars pushed for a fourth set in hopes of turning the tide, but our athletes such as #13 senior Nathan Scherber blocked any aspiring dreams they had left to leave an impression on the game. #14 junior Andre Gates also displayed incredible skill throughout, managing to churn out six kills, two blocks, and even an ace– a beautiful balance between offense and defense as the team’s middle hitter. #23 Senior Micheal Cummins pushed this aggressive offense furthermore, snagging four kills for himself alongside duo #18 senior Pierce Faucon’s three. But it wasn’t just in this game against Averett that ‘Noke Men’s Volleyball shone.
At the time of this writing, Roanoke College currently has not only the highest number of points across every ODAC contender, 1154, but also the highest point average per set with 16.97. The Maroons also hold the highest overall stats for assists out of the ODAC roster, even second behind Randolph-Macon for the greatest overall hitting percentage. On top of ‘Noke having the best stats for kills and digs, it’s clear that the boys this season are determined to win the entire championship. If there’s any team to keep a close eye on, Men’s Volleyball should draw your attention.
Be sure to cheer them on today, at 5p.m., as they head to Virginia Beach to fight off against Regent University!
