So one week until Halloween, post fall-break sleepiness, getting back to the swing of things at Roanoke College. What is there to do at times like this? While you could do a marathon night of the Disney Channel Halloween episodes on Disney+ or watch scary movies until you scream so loud your vocal chords give out, so here are some classics to get you in the Halloween spirit!
Starting off with a classic, “Scream” directed by Wes Craven debuted in 1996 with the iconic white ghostface mask. This slasher-thriller showcases this Ghostface killer stalks high school students in middle-class suburbia. A group of friends work together using their knowledge of horror movies to try and unmask the killer. This classic film showcases the iconic “Do you like scary movies” which opens the film. This sets the tone for the entire film and makes you even more tense throughout the spooky experience.
Another film to add to your Halloween watchlist this year is Coraline. This stop-motion film from 2009 showcases Coraline Jones galavanting through her old house in her boring new town but as she is exploring, she finds little door to a strangely perfect version of her life that seems too good to be true. Why is this in the Halloween category? The Other-Mother has button eyes, the way music is utilized to build suspense, and paranormal activities can truly make you creeped out (in a good way).
Lastly, if you want a bit of nostalgia for Disney Channel Movies, watch Girl vs. Monster. This 2012 classic showcases Skylar (played by Olivia Holt) going on a mission to capture a mysterious monster she accidentally let loose before it wreaks havoc on her beloved town. This movie has musical bops like “Fearless” sung by Olivia Holt and “Had Me @ Hello” sung by Luke Benward and Olivia Holt.
