Roanoke Football VS. Greensboro

With their most recent game, ‘Noke football traveled all the way down to Greensboro, North Carolina last Saturday, September 13th, to put their skills to the test against Greensboro College.

The Maroons were confident from their previous ODAC win against University of Lynchburg, however the start of the first quarter was mildly sluggish. Both teams were struggling to find a rhythm in their plays, but #30 sophomore Ethan Cyr managed to pull off a smooth 33-yard field goal for Roanoke, starting the score off at 3-0. Not much else happened throughout the first, but the second is where bursts of intensity began to rise.

Chaos ensued as the Pride rushed for a touchdown, making it 3-7 in their favor. Later on #98 freshmen Zyair Brown recovered a fumble in the endzone, then attempted to make a touchdown for Roanoke. Sadly, it was blocked and returned by 92-yards, causing a rare defensive two-point PAT. On top of Greensboro making another touchdown, 9-15, the Maroons answered with a wild 94-yard blocked PAT by ‘Noke D’Angelo Walker, cutting the deficit to 11-15 at halftime.

Roanoke started their comeback at the second half, with #5 junior Kam Hill passing the ball to #12 sophomore Khamari Garner who scored another touchdown alongside Ethan Cry’s successful kick, taking the lead at 18-15. The fourth quarter was filled with even more intensity, as #3 junior KJ Bratton and #24 sophomore Tyson Miller made additional touchdowns, bumping the score to a crisp 32-15. Greensboro managed to pull off one more touchdown before the game had ended, but at that point, their fate had been sealed.

The Maroons finished the score 32-22, marking their second win in-a-row for their first ODAC season; and they’re still undefeated! Stay tuned for their next upcoming game next Saturday, September 27th, against Gallaudet University inside our very own Salem Stadium!
