Tyler, the Creator has recently dropped “CHROMAKOPIA” and it has been received fairly well! This is Tyler’s eight studio album which was released on October 28th, 2024. This album was written and produced by Tyler himself. The features of this album include Daniel Caesar, Doechii, GloRilla, LaToiya Williams, Lil Wayne, Childish Gambino, Solange, Lola Young, Santigold, Schoolboy Q, Sexxy Red, Thundercat, and Teezo Touchdown. There are physical copies of the album (like CD’s) that feature Playboi Carti.
This is a mainly hip-hop album, as are most Tyler albums, but there are notes of jazz and soul scattered throughout as well. Throughout the album, we get Bonita Smith, his mother, narrating different aspects of experiences on different tracks. Many reviews have noted that the lyricism, cohesiveness, and production are spectacular and unlike anything we have seen by Tyler…I would disagree and say that Igor stays at that spot, but I digress.
There was only one single from this album, that being “Noid” which dropped on October 21st, a week before the album’s release. This song is about being in the public eye as well as some instances he’s had in the past regarding his fame. Tyler has been in the eye of the public since 2011, so he has over a decade’s worth of interactions to lyrically create this song.
As the album continues to be praised, the songs that have stuck on TikTok are “Sticky” featuring GloRilla, Sexxy Red, and Lil Wayne. “Sticky” has its iconic horns and creative beat that has its own dance created for it. As a dancer, this dance is quite satisfying to learn and do. The drums kicking during the chorus hit a note that made the song come together. The thing that brings this entire song together is the consistent whistle that shows up. This little set of notes lets the listeners know what musical masterpiece is about to go down.
This album is explicit, so listen with some precautions if that is not your vibe.
