Timeframe of the 2024 Presidential Election

By Mikaela Gantz

This article is meant to serve as a timeline for all the things that have happened in
the past few months since we last published leading up to the 2024 Presidential Election.
The Brackety-Ack will be doing opinion and news election coverage leading up to (and
potentially after) the election. On the back cover of the Brackety-Ack, there will be
information on how to register to vote (absentee or otherwise). I highly recommend
everyone (who is able to) to register to vote. It is not only our privilege as citizens of the
United States, but our duty.
May: The most important news of note for this month was on May 30th when
Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts in his New York Trial. This makes him the
first ever President to be convicted of a felony.
June: The main event of June was the first campaign debate between current
President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. Biden’s performance in this
debate sparked calls for him to end his reelection campaign.
July: On the first day of July, the United States Supreme Court delivered a 6-3
decision along ideological lines in Trump v. United States. This ruling stated that Trump
had absolute immunity for acts he committed during his presidency. On July 13th, Trump
was shot in the ear at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. The next day the 2024
Republican National convention began where Trump was officially confirmed as the
Republican presidential nominee and he announced JD Vance as his running mate. On
July 21st, President Biden announced his withdrawal from the race. On the same day,
current Vice President Kamala Harris announced her campaign for election.
August: On August 5th, Kamala Harris was confirmed as the Democratic
Presidential Nominee. The next day Harris announced Tim Walz as her running mate.
Between August 19th-22nd the Democratic National convention was held.
