A long standing tradition that has been a large part of Roanoke College is the close ties to family Maroons hold– from building bonds with their classmates and their professors, to their families back home no matter how distant that may be. It’s why Roanoke College’s Family Weekend has long since created a dedicated place that brings many of the Maroons on campus joy as it gives them the chance to not just bring their families on campus, but those who mean the most to them as well.
As is the situation with every Family Weekend, faculty and staff alike bring forth many opportunities for Maroons to show their most important people the lives they live on campus– with this year full of endless fun for everyone.
For instance, this Friday on the Quad offers the ever fun Dragonfest with a picnic for families to enjoy on the Quad along with a multitude of exciting activities for people of all ages to join in on with one another. Following this is the Game Room’s ever famous pool tournament, where competitive spirits can show off their skills and win prizes– from 6pm to 8pm in the basement of Colket!
From here, Saturday is just as jam packed with things to do with the whole family. Allow the family to understand the impact their support can have on current Maroons at the 9am Empowering Futures meeting in the Colket ballroom, or join the Office of Multicultural Affairs at their brunch where you can continue to build your community with other members of campus who share the same views on how to become your successful self. That same Saturday, Maroons can bet the English department won’t be missing out either, with a Fiction and Poetry reading from current students so many can see the creative prowess that their writing holds– hosted in the Logan Gallery of the Bank Building on campus.
Of course, what would Roanoke College be if not for the continued dedication and perseverance of their sport teams, so be sure to also show your own support for the maroon and silver this weekend as both women’s and men’s teams work hard to bring home the wins
To wrap it all up, Sunday will say goodbye to the Maroon families with a warm brunch for everyone.
So while the weekend is young, be sure to bring your close loved ones to see what it means to be a Maroon and show off Roanoke College life to them!
