Final Coaches Quotes

Written by Alexis Barton

Seniors, as we look back to honor your four years at Roanoke College, some of your coaches have one final message for you and your teammates.

Men’s Basketball

“We are extremely grateful to our three seniors for the outstanding job they did representing our program both on and off the court.  They were outstanding student-athletes who contributed greatly to the growth, success, and culture of our program, and each will be missed.  All three will be highly successful in their respective ventures after graduation, and I am thankful to have coached Brandon, Caleb, and Joe for the past four years.”

-Coach Clay Nunley

Women’s Basketball

“Thank you for four wonderful years and for helping transform and shape our program into a top ODAC contender.  You have been instrumental in helping right the ship, and I am so proud of the both of you.  I wish you nothing but the best as you tackle life’s next challenges.  Love, Coach” -Coach Carla Flaherty

Golf

“I really appreciate the hard work and leadership that these three young men provided for the golf program. Owen, Corey, and Nick all bought into what we were trying to do. They provided support and guidance to a talented group of freshmen and that was a huge part in the success that we had this season. I will be forever grateful for all they have done, and any success that the program has in the future will be a result of how these young men handled themselves and helped us build a strong foundation on which the program could grow.”

-Coach Richie Waggoner

Men’s Lacrosse

“Guys, thank you for your four years of hard work and dedication.  You were all having your best year yet as a senior, and it is a shame it had to end too soon.  You provided our young team with great leadership in our shortened season of 2020 and that will never be forgotten.  Thank you for teaching the younger guys the tradition, hard work, determination and expectations that come with being a Roanoke lacrosse player.  You will be missed but not forgotten.”

-Coach Bill Pilat

Men’s Soccer

“Atticus has been a critical piece to our program’s success since he stepped foot in Salem, and we thank him for all the work and effort he put in over the past four years. He has been successful both on the field and in the classroom- a model student athlete we are proud to have had in our program.  We wish him all the best as he moves forward from Roanoke College. Constantly improving his skill and technique, JC is one of the individually hardest working players to have come through our program.  He is an electric attacking player who was dangerous on the dribble and lethal on free kicks.  I am excited to see what the future holds for JC, as he will undoubtedly continue to be successful in the pursuits he sets his ambitions towards.”

-Coach Ryan Pflugrad

Women’s Soccer

“This group of seniors led the 2019 team to the best season since 2011. With their steady leadership and contributions on the field we played at a high level and achieved success.”

-Coach Phil Benne
