New Music VS Old Music

Written by Jessica Shelburne

The music produced today, what can be considered new music, is comprised of such a vast collection of genres and sounds that it is almost absurd to think of new music as a category by itself.

Nonetheless, all of this new music is a remarkable reflection not only of the ever-present talent among individuals in today’s society, but also of current technology and generational characteristics.

Alternative music is one of the most preferred genres of music among younger generations. It is largely inclusive musical category and content is released rapidly. From heavy guitar riffs and drum patterns to acapella and acoustic ukulele solos, new alternative music will be historical for its popularity. The Lumineers, Cage the Elephant and Lana Del Rey are examples of prominent alternative music artists.

Many college-aged individuals are known to emphasize rap music because of its prevalence within the party scene. Drake, Travis Scott and Migos are among the artists/groups that create the rhythm-and-poetry music.

Alternative and rap music do not begin to encompass the variety of music offered to people today. Current musical production features unprecedented clarity in sound, unique utilization of instruments and voice and lyrical genius.
