Kim Petras’ new album, Turn Off the Light, Vol. 1, is the new dark-pop soundtrack to your Halloween. Petras, the world’s youngest transgender pop artist, has gained heavy streaming rotation since her debut in 2017 with singles like “I Don’t Want It At All” and “Heart to Break.”
Petras’ musical vibe is somewhere between 80’s love anthem and millennial cool-girl, yet Turn Off the Light,Vol. 1 is a spooky departure from both.
The 8-track long EP is a thematic, horror-synth club piece that blends the haunt of “Thriller” with Petras’ unforgettable electropop. In a recent interview with OUT Magazine, Petras credits Britney Spears’ album Blackout and the classic “Monster Mash” as influences for her latest mixtape.
Petras is currently touring with Troye Sivan nationwide on The Bloom Tour. Breaking barriers as an LGBTQ+ artist, Petras is sure to leave a lasting impression this October with an album that is as bewitching as it is bold.
