Roanoke College golf has had an excellent start to their season as both the men’s and the women’s teams have performed well in invitational tournaments. The men’s team has already competed in two invitationals, performing admirably. In their first invitational, kicking off the season, they placed 9th of 17 teams in Lexington, Kentucky. They finished ahead of rivals Bridgewater and Guilford and competed against schools from all across the nation.
In their second tournament, the Maroons improved considerably, finishing 3rd against an extremely strong field of teams. The only teams to triumph over ‘Noke were Bridgewater and Christopher Newport. Both schools boast strong golf teams. Senior Sean Hickey dominated on the final day, finishing the round four under par and leading the way for the Maroons meanwhile sophomore Chase Snyder’s consistency drove to finish the competition, and helped Roanoke secure their spot in the top three. Golfers senior Will Miele, junior Andrew Garcia and freshman Peyton Mason also put up strong performances en route to a podium finish. For our women’s team, Roanoke also got off to a respectable start.
The women’s team placed 15th at the Shenandoah invitational, beating Pfeiffer and Averett while also being just shy of Kean and Bridgewater. The women’s team was headlined by junior Allyson Childs, who finished the competition only 24 over par; their only invitational to date and displayed promise for the future. Sophomore Kendall West also showcased some great skills, completing the rounds at only 35 above par. Junior Eleanor Flanagan finished the competition strong, birdieing one of the final holes. Here is to hoping that both Roanoke golf teams keep up their momentum and continue to thrive in the future!
