Roanoke College men’s wrestling has been extremely dominant the entire season, winning meets against Division III’s toughest competition. They have compiled a perfect 15-0 win-loss record before ODAC championships. Roanoke’s team has only been getting hotter as well, recently coming in first at the Pete Wilson-Wheaton 30-team invitational in Illinois. This weekend they continued their reign by easily putting away Washington & Lee and Averett by a combined score of 75-7. Against Washington & Lee, Roanoke was behind early on 4-3, but they wasted no time at all getting back in the win column. Hunter Moore, Cade Parent and Kyle Lee were able to get the momentum back for the Maroons. Mark Samuel was able to close out the meet to ensure a comfortable Roanoke win.
The following matchup against Averett College was an interesting one as Roanoke had been blown out by them as recently as 2022. It was also Roanoke’s season closer and would put them in position to achieve another ODAC title. Roanoke, however, was able to dominate in a way that silenced every doubter. All 10 Roanoke wrestlers won their matchups to allow for a 45-0 victory. Both Hunter Moore and Lorenzo Pellot-Vásquez were able to pin their opponents and multiple other wrestlers won handily. Mac Cafurello was able to obtain victory in a tough, exciting sudden victory period.
The Maroons had three wrestlers named to the ODAC team of the week. These wrestlers were Jude Robson, Hunter Moore and Jackson Bell. Roanoke finished the regular season with 5 shutouts and ranked No. 1 in all of Division III. The Maroons also had a spectacular 5-0 conference record. Keep supporting the Maroons as they go to the postseason and have their wrestlers compete at Shenandoah in the ODAC championships!
