The men’s ‘Noke basketball team has been on fire this ODAC season, snatching a hearty 86-74 lead against Randolph College in Lynchburg this past Wednesday on January 28th. Kudos to them for traveling amongst all the abundant ice and snow!
Throughout the game, our own #11 senior Marcus Morgan joined the 1,000-point club in his career, hitting a monumental milestone and contributing 11 points overall in the most recent game. This marks him as the 44th player in Roanoke College’s men’s basketball history to achieve such a feat. Other players such as sophomore – lucky #7 – Caleb Franze, also showed a brilliant offense, racking up a team-high of 17 points. But that wasn’t even his first.
Back in Roanoke’s previous game against Bridgewater College on January 23rd right here in sunny (or rather “snowy”) Salem, Franze managed to score a team-high of 15 points, showcasing an incredible ability to swiftly take the lead– four of which were three-pointers!
Another remarkable player to note is junior #5 Jackson Bell, who really shone back on the January 21st game in Lynchburg against Lynchburg College. Bell managed to pull off a whopping 31 points, a career high for the athlete. To put that into perspective, that’s roughly one-third of the total 92-68 winning score Roanoke achieved.
Upcoming today on Friday, January 29th at 4:00PM, the famed Roanoke tradition “Maroon Madness” event will be held in the Cregger Center. Our women’s basketball team will face off against Randolph College, then shortly afterward the men’s will compete with Averett University for their six win-streak. Be sure to cheer on your fellow Maroons as we enter halfway into the ODAC season!
