Now that winter is here, every day becomes a little colder than the last. This is the time of the year when all we want is to snuggle up on our cozy beds with our warm blankets and drink some hot chocolate to battle the cold. If your room becomes particularly cold, you might be interested in getting personal heaters; they can provide some extra warmth, but they also have some extra dangers to be aware of.
A video by “Project Farm” on space heaters demonstrates the need for certain caution when using them. The main point to take away is how easy it is to become dangerous if covered up with a flammable cloth or pushed down by accident. It is best not to leave these appliances on while unattended.
This warning extends to outside of your dorm room. When going back home for the holidays remember to never leave candles, space heaters, or incandescent lights on while you aren’t home. Yes, even incandescent Christmas lights, although they are nice to decorate with, can get hot and damage (or burn) the Christmas tree you took so long to choose (or the plastic one that has been in the family for twenty years).
If you are a particularly anxious person and worry too much about these things, then maybe it’s time to invest in as many warm Christmas blankets as you possibly can. Cover up for the weather and stay warm maroons, happy holidays!
