Cheering For the Playoffs!

As our fall sports are coming to a close, and our winter sports athletes are starting to hit the weight rooms, I wanted to highlight one of our fall sports teams that only has one home game left! The RC women’s soccer team so far has a record of seven wins, seven losses, and one tie. On Saturday, October 25 at 3:00PM, the Maroons will host ODAC competitor Virginia Wesleyan at Kerr Stadium. This game could possibly be the last game that many of these athletes will play on their home turf, due to the team being comprised of twelve seniors.

The team, however, does have a fighting chance at being a contender in the ODAC playoffs in the quarterfinals round. Right now, the team is ranked sixth in the ODAC league, which would mean they would not be able to host a playoff game, but they could still compete in the playoffs on the road. If these ladies were to win their next couple of games, that would move them up in the rankings, possibly to a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th seed; which would qualify them as a host in the quarter finals round.

Getting to a 2nd or 3rd seed will be a tall task though. VA Wesleyan is currently ranked as a 3rd seed in the ODAC with a conference record of five wins, one loss, and one tied match. Roanoke’s conference record stands at four wins and three losses, so they should still have a chance to move up in the ODAC rankings. This game might be difficult, but with your help, this Saturday we might be able to help propel the women’s soccer team to a win over VA Wesleyan and help them get good seeding in the ODAC tournament. If you are free on October 25th, at 3:00PM, I’m sure these athletes – especially seniors – would appreciate your help in creating a positive game-day atmosphere that could help boost their standings.
