New Opportunities For Downtown Roanoke

GIVE Roanoke is an annual fundraising event that brings together a local community by supporting local non-profits in the Roanoke area. This year’s official day of giving is April 23rd, however early giving has already begun.

This project is part of a greater initiative to improve the city of Roanoke and instill a stronger sense of community within the surrounding area.

One of the non-profits that is seeking more funding through this program is called Downtown Roanoke Inc (DRI). DRI is a small group that is seeking to “enhance the heart of downtown Roanoke. They have been organizing community beautification events and festivals since 1960, according to the Visit Roanoke VA website.

DRI has an initiative to clean downtown Roanoke to improve the culture and shopping of the area. According to WDBJ 7 News, the team spends over 300 hours cleaning up trash on the streets of downtown Roanoke, removing graffiti from public spaces, and interacting with the unhoused community.

During the GIVE Roanoke event, you can donate funds to pay for a hanging flower basket, maintaining greenery downtown, or simply to support the organization.

Another participant of the GIVE Roanoke fundraising event is the Roanoke Valley Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). The SPCA has a donation page, where you can donate money to feed, house, and microchip animals in their care.

Visiting the GIVE Roanoke website (www.giveroanoke.org) will bring you to a page of all the other non-profit organizations that you can donate to. These nonprofits are essential to the Roanoke area, and this fundraising event will provide opportunity for them to gain publicity and funding.

With fundraisers and nonprofits focusing on improving the local community, it’s a great time to be a Maroon in the Roanoke area.
