With the new school year starting, Roanoke College welcomes back a highly anticipated sport that has been missing for quite a while: Football. This will be the first year Roanoke College has had a football team since 1942, nearly eighty years ago. With fresh recruits from all around settling in, these players plan to fight hard to make a riveting name for themselves and Roanoke College Football this fall! They announced their schedule with five games held on Sundays every other week alongside the new cheerleading team and marching band. Eagerly, the whole school will cheer all of them on!
The schedule was organized in this specific way “by design so we can go back and learn and grow from each game. Having both home and road contests is important from a logistics standpoint, and the most important aspect of this fall schedule is our development,” states Coach Bryan Stinespring. With hopes of a whopping 5-0 season, the opening football game will be held Sunday, September 8th 2PM at the Salem stadium! They will play against Hampden-Sydney College and display all their hard work and effort with this historic match. Admissions will be free to the first home game of the season to celebrate the return of football! Even though Roanoke College Football is debuting as a club sport this year, they plan to move up to ODAC as a varsity team by Fall of 2025. If you’d like to show your support while nabbing some free food, prizes and fun games, don’t miss the upcoming Tailgate FOTQ happening on September 6th from 4:30PM through 7:00PM. Us Maroons are incredibly excited to see what the football team is capable of and how far they will go! Here we go, Maroons!
