Swimming to Victory

As Roanoke College opens the 2024-2025 season for Men and Women’s swim teams, they recently competed at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Relays which were hosted by Washington & Lee University on Saturday, September 28, 2024 taking place in Lexington, VA. Both teams have worked hard since beginning their practices, which only started at the beginning of September. Both of these teams have been known to work hard in and out of the pool. In fact, they are constantly in the pool or in the weight room working to make themselves better! At the meet that took place on Saturday, the women’s team took second place out of 10 teams totaling 293 points. The Maroon men’s team also did well placing third out of eight teams totaling 273 points.

During these events, the teams took part in relays and had three swimmers grouped with each team. For the teams to have only started practicing together at the beginning of the month, they have done exceptionally well thus far. The top finishers within the women’s team were athletes Lily Mullins, Halle Schafer, and Juliana Morrow who took part in the 3 x 50 team relay and won the race in 1:21:91. Along with this, there were some second-place teams formed of different swimmers such as Bella Cowan, Susannah Price, and Kate Pearson. The men’s team also had some top contenders, such as the second-place team made up of swimmers Sean Hogan, Logan Deal, Tyler Hill, and Dylan Hartman in the 200 medley in a time of 1:35:08 alongside more swimmers such as Ryan Franceys, Regan Euler, Morgan Taylor, Austin Hartsell, and others. Both men’s and women’s swim teams have done great thus far, Roanoke cannot wait to see how their season will continue. The next meet for the swim teams will be hosted at the Salem YMCA Saturday, October 12 at 2 PM where they will host Southern Virginia University!
