Senior Spotlight: Addison Schmidt

Addison Schmidt’s buoyant personality radiates in every part of her life. Schmidt became a Maroon in the Fall of 2022 as a transfer from San Diego State University. She automatically fit right in with the Roanoke College community and has made a positive impact on the Roanoke Women’s lacrosse team. As she completes her senior year as a maroon her valiant attitude on the lacrosse field continues. As does her leadership; the leadership she has shown is aspiring and will be greatly missed. 

What attracted you to Roanoke College? 

“I was first introduced to Roanoke College by my older brother, as he played lacrosse at University of Lynchburg from 2017 to 2022. Lynchburg and Roanoke are both members of the ODAC, hence how I was first made aware of the school.When I first visited the campus of Roanoke College, I was immediately drawn to the campus’s facilities and sense of community amongst the students, faculty, and other personnel. I also was attracted to the small class sizes and potential for authentic connections.” 

What is your favorite memory as a Roanoke College athlete? 

“My favorite memory as a Roanoke College athlete was when my team received an at large bid to the NCAA tournament in May 2022. My team had not participated in the NCAA tournament since 2009 prior to receiving a bid last spring. Being a part of the Roanoke Women’s Lacrosse team in general is also a favorite memory of mine. Prior to arriving at Roanoke I thought I had it all, and it was not until I joined the lacrosse team here that I realized everything I was missing.” 

What is your goal this season? 

“My goal this season is to be a good role model and teammate. Wins, losses, and conference championships all come and go, and eventually just become merely statistics. The way in which you treat people, how you make people feel, and the potential impact you can have on those around you is far more significant than winning games. My goal this season is to leave a positive impact on those around me, as well as to leave a positive impact on the program.” 

What is one thing you will miss? 

“I will miss the camaraderie that being a part of the Women’s lacrosse team has brought me. I will miss the bus rides, pre game meals, and hanging out in the locker room the most. I will miss the little things that encompass what it means to be a part of a team more than I will miss playing the sport.” 

What are your future plans? 

“I hope to use my degree in Elementary Education to teach at a boarding school. Eventually, I would like to teach English overseas in predominantly Spanish speaking countries.”
