Field Hockey Continues to Leave Their Mark

In the month of October, the women’s field hockey team was nearly unstoppable. After a six-game streak of shutout wins in September, the Maroons took this momentum with them into the new month with two smaller winning streaks. The team was stellar in conference play despite close losses towards the end of the month, a factor that will help propel them towards a competitive seed in the upcoming postseason. 

On the day dedicated to their seniors, the Maroons took on conference rival Randolph-Macon. The team came out strong against the Yellow Jackets with Hope Keller scoring early in the first period of play. The team showed both their defensive and offensive prowess as they defended their end of the turf and continued to ramp up the score. Saige Bullock scored the second and third goals for the Maroons, with the Yellow Jackets only being able to respond with a single goal. The Maroons left the field victorious with a 3-1 win. Despite the team’s recent loss to the dominant Washington & Lee, the Maroons remain competitive with close one and two-goal losses. 

The team now waits for the rest of the conference to finish their regular season to determine the final rankings going into the playoffs. Likely top seeds include Washington & Lee and Shenandoah, but the Maroons are expected to make their mark close behind. Postseason play will begin on Tuesday, November 1 with the first game between seeds five and four, and the second game between seeds six and three.
