Roanoke men’s golf will travel to the ODAC Championship match this weekend, Sunday April 25th and Monday April 26th, for a two day match against 11 other ODAC schools. Day one of the match will consist of the first 36 holes, while day two will have the final 18 hole course and the announcement of a 2021 ODAC Golf Champion. The championship will be played on the Bryan Park Champions Course in Browns Summit, North Carolina.
Roanoke’s team has had a successful season, with a 318.6 scoring average, ranking 9th compared to other ODAC schools. Beginning the season with a 2nd place finish in their Roanoke Spring Invitational, the team was headed in the right direction for a competitive ODAC finish. The golf season has seen 5 single-day matches and 2 two-day matches, as many second day rounds were cancelled due to weather. In the Bridgewater Spring Shootout, Michael Donnelly finished 1st among the 20 participants by going 3 under par of 72. This individual-only match saw four Roanoke team members finishing in the top 15. In a recent match at the Hampden-Sydney Invitational, Roanoke ended the weekend with a total of 649 coming in 10th for the match.
Roanoke team members have continued their success off the course and in the classroom. A number of these young men have been honored for their contributions this season on the conference level for a variety of occasions. Sophomore Will Clary is recognized in the top 25 ODAC individual leaders with an average of 77.6 strokes. Daniel Poff was honored on March 3rd as the ODAC Player of the Week for men’s golf after he finished 3rd overall in the Roanoke Spring Invitational. He was also one of five golfers to score below 80 in the match, scoring a mere four over the 71 par. Poff’s work helped to gain the team a 2nd place finish in this match, which began the team’s season. Additional players have received ODAC honor roll including Justin Grenier for the week of March 10th and Michael Donnelly for the week of April 7th. As these Maroons head towards the ODAC Championship, we wish them the best for the end of their season.
