Men’s Basketball

The men’s basketball team ended their regular season play on a three game win streak and are hoping to keep that streak going through the ODAC Tournament. The men defeated Lynchburg last night in the quarterfinal game, 74-72. Up next, they will face the second seed, Guilford, in the semifinal game at 3:00pm, and if all goes well, they will have a shot at the championship game on Sunday at 1:00pm.

Women’s Basketball

After a tough February the women’s basketball team bounced back this week with a big win against Lynchburg and an even bigger win in the first round of the ODAC Tournament.  The Maroons hope their good play will continue in their quarterfinal matchup against the second seed, Emory & Henry.

Track and Field

The Track and Field teams have been running wild in the last few weeks with school records falling as they march on to ODACs.  At the Virginia Tech Challenge last weekend, Zach Dalton broke the school record in the 600m race and Jayvon Jones broke his own school record in the triple jump.  They will try to keep this momentum going as they head into ODACs this weekend.

Baseball

The men’s baseball season got underway a couple of weeks ago with some trouble on the road against Methodist.  They hoped to get back to their winning ways last weekend until a few cancellations delayed the games until this weekend.  The team travels to Christopher Newport this weekend and aims to come back with a winning record.

Women’s Lacrosse

The women’s lacrosse team started their season in smashing fashion a couple of weekends ago with a win over Centre College 18-9.  Lilly Blair and Jenn Schwechheimer racked up four goals each, and Schwechheimer would go on to add five assists, making her the ODAC Women Lacrosse Player of the Week. The team hopes to keep the start of their season perfect when they face Averett this Saturday, February 23 at 1:00pm at Kerr.

Women’s Tennis

The women’s tennis season is underway after a great performance against Guilford College last Friday.  After only dropping one game in doubles, the Maroons took care of business in singles to win 9-0. The team is off until early March when they will travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina over Spring Break.

Swimming

The men’s and women’s swim teams competed in the ODAC championships over the weekend with both teams finishing inside the top three.  The men’s team finished second after Head Coach Scott Thacker was named ODAC Coach of the Year. Connor Kinkema was named the ODAC Rookie of the Meet and will try to use this momentum to help both teams have a strong showing at the NCAA Championships next month.

Keep on the lookout for the men’s tennis team starting their season March 3 in Hilton Head, S.C. over Spring Break. Softball is starting their season off with a double header at the Moyer Complex on March 1 against Geneva. Men’s lacrosse is kicking off this Saturday at 4:00pm against Sewanee at Kerr Stadium.
