Seafood Surprise!

This past Tuesday, the 8th of April, Commons hosted its annual Beach Fest for dinner. The event includes several types of seafood, steak and potato wedges, tropical desserts, and a mocktail bar. The dining hall was also extensively decorated with adorably on-theme beach décor.

While I absolutely adore both the concept and the execution, I have one major issue with the event – I don’t eat seafood, of pretty much any kind. I also unfortunately do not like steak all that much either, so I opted for a few pieces of pizza for dinner. I am very glad that the stir-fry, pasta, and pizza bars remained open for the duration of the event, because otherwise I would have been left without my preferred dinner options.

I am happy to report that my peers seemed to greatly enjoy the various seafood offerings of the evening. My best friend was particularly fond of the lobster macaroni and cheese and the fried shrimp.

I did visit the mocktail bar to try both the pina colada and strawberry daiquiri drinks. Both were good, but I preferred the coconut of the colada. The dessert options were also excellent, with the oven-baked smores being my favorite option, though the graham-cracker topped sand cake and the key lime pie were also delicious. The décor was also delightful, bringing an extra special sense of tropical whimsy to the dining experience.

Even though the main courses were not appetizing to me, I really love the tradition of the Beach Fest because it seems to bring people together and give a sense of fun to the otherwise mundane act of getting dinner from the dining hall.
