With Halloween just around the corner, a LOT of candy is about to be passed around between strangers, friends, and family. Out of curiosity, I posted a poll on my Instagram asking my Roanoke College peers to tell me whether they prefer chocolate candy, fruity candy, or a secret third thing.
Chocolate won with a majority of votes, totaling 54% with 15 votes. 9 people preferred fruity candy, which came in at 32%. Finally, 4 people chose the neither/both/something else option.
Personally, I tend to agree with the majority here. I like the rich creaminess of chocolate, especially when paired with other textures and flavors. However, there are times when I’m craving something fruity and fun, such as a bag of Skittles or a few pink Starbursts.
My polling methods were, unfortunately, flawed. I shouldn’t have posted the poll on my Instagram, because I got some non-Roanoke responses mixed in with my RC ones. I also probably should not have left room for nuance, so I could have gotten clearer results. This means we may never truly know which candy people genuinely prefer. But honestly, it doesn’t matter as long as everyone gets to have some of their favorite delicious candy this Halloween!
