Happy fall y’all! As the leaves turn and Halloween sets in, you might be itching for some fun autumn activities. Luckily, there are a bountiful amount of events occurring where you can join in on the fun!
First up is the grand 25th annual Pumpkinfest hosted at the Salem farmer’s market on October 24th, 5:30PM-8:30PM. Admission is only $5, full of food and a beer truck alongside inflatables, carnival games, sand art and more. A live band “The Dundies” will also be playing at the event, so why not stop by when it’s only a couple blocks away?
Also on October 24th from 6:00PM-10:00PM, CAB is hosting their very own Fall Festival today. This is a great way to spend your weekend if you’re looking for delicious food, great prizes, and making memories. There will be roasted pumpkin seeds, rinderbraten, bratwurst, beer and more! Activities will include pumpkin carving, candy apple bobbing, raffles and so forth.
Another underrated activity that’s completely free is hiking. At this time of year when the autumn foliage is at its peak, I highly recommend checking it out on the view from a mountaintop. It’s a gorgeous experience with a bit of exercise and peace within beautiful nature. McAfee Knob Trailhead and Tinker Cliffs are just some of many great places to start. If you haven’t tried hiking before, now would be the perfect time.
Looking for something spooky? Why not go on the Roanoke Ghost Tour on October 29th-31st at 6:00PM? Hosted outside Olde Salem Brewing in downtown Roanoke, historians will guide you through the city’s ghastly past where you’ll not only get the chills, but learn a thing or two about Roanoke’s historical figures. Tickets are $20 per individual, but the experience is one you’ll never forget.
