The R Shushok Shindig is this week. BIG NEWS. This annual event has been the talk of the town for Fall semester each year. On October 3rd (yes, Mean Girls Day) starting at 5 PM and ending at 8PM, it’s time to party! Now, what is the Shushok Shindig? Well, there are free prizes, fun games, line dancing-of course-and barbeque!
Not only are these part of the entertainment, but there is also the Bull Riding Competition at 6:00 PM, a Cornhole Tournament at 7:00 PM, Bouncing Bulls Races, and more! With each of these competitive tournaments, there are prizes that come with them! For the Bull Tournament, the rider who stays on the mechanical bull the longest gets a CUSTOM Cowboy hat! With this event, the first couple people who arrive get a FREE trucker hat! Last year it was a Cowboy hat, and the year before THAT was a bandanna! All of these to say that you went to the Shushok Shindig. For the Cornhole Tournament, if you get 1st place you get a RC Cornhole Set. There is also Pumpkin Bowling, Horseshoes, Jenga, and even more!
What’s the history behind this joyous event? Well, the Shushok’s started this event to bring honor to their home state of Texas. The food as well will not disappoint. There will be a Chicken & Pork Slider station, Nacho & Chili Bar, Mac & Cheese, Green Beans, & Baked Beans. For sweet treats, there are S’mores, Churros, and Peach Crisp! There will also be a Mocktail Station with Custom Cups (and if you are 21+, bring your Maroon Card & State-Issued ID for 2 Drink Tickets with the option to purchase a 3rd).
Another fun thing that’s happening is a Costume Contest! Dress to the theme! Cowboy, cowgirl, country style! You know what that means, cowboy boots and Line Dancing! If you post your outfit on Instagram and tag @RoanokeCampus, you have a chance to win your very own Cowboy Boots!
