Band News

Our band program has been very busy this year, and rehearsals are in full swing. There are several exciting pieces of news to share.

Do you play flute but don’t want to join the Wind Ensemble? If yes, then Flute Choir may be for you. New this year, the flautists in the Wind and Jazz Ensembles and others have come together to form this group, and they will be rehearsing every Sunday afternoon. Flute is not the main instrument of all the members, but they are all excited to play together and share their love of the flute family.

Another new initiative within the band program is that band members have worked to petition the national organization of Kappa Kappa Psi, the Honorary Band Fraternity, to bring a chapter to Roanoke College. They are happy to announce that the petition was accepted, and these trailblazing students will be working hard this semester to go through the initiation process and officially form a chapter at the college. They are hoping to be a long-standing group and help our band program become stronger. With its major points being musicianship, leadership, and service, Kappa Kappa Psi will help our band students become stronger leaders in the community.

The marching and spirit bands have grown this year and will be performing at football games and some other sporting events. Keep a lookout for these groups and cheer them on along with the sports teams.

The Wind and Jazz Ensembles are still going strong, so come out to the concerts and watch your fellow maroons show off their hard work. There will be multiple concerts this year of these groups, starting with a Jazz Ensemble joint concert with the Concert Choir during Family Weekend next week.

If you play an instrument and are interested in joining any of these groups this year, it may not be too late. We would love to have you!

Whether you play in any of the groups or not, come support the bands!
