If you like to line dance, and are from the Roanoke, VA area, there is a spot for you near Roanoke College! This welcoming environment thrusts you right into the action when you walk in: Line Dancing. Whether you’re more familiar with older classics like “Born to Boogie” or “Achy Breaky Heart” or are more up to speed with modern line dances like “P.Y.T.” (yes, the song by Michael Jackson PYT) or “Maneater” (song by Nelly Furtado), there is something for everyone.
Starting with Sidewinders, Sidewinders Steakhouse and Saloon is located at 16 Campbell Ave SE, Roanoke, VA. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, they host “College Line Dance Nights,” which lets people 16+ (unless accompanied by a parent) come join in on the fun. I occasionally go there to get some energy out on a Tuesday or Thursday night. The people are very friendly, and a new dance is always being taught! The amazing coaches who are there teach 3-line dances. On Thursday nights, however, there are two floors available for entertainment. Downstairs (where you first enter) is line dancing, while upstairs is all Dance Music (songs you’d typically find in such an establishment). There is a $10 cover charge at the door, cash. Everyone has a great time here at Sidewinders! Typically, the dancing starts at 8:30 pm and runs until close (which can vary depending on attendance. Sometimes it was midnight, sometimes even later!)
Parking has been the hardest thing regarding this night of events, I will admit. Sometimes my group had to pay for parking, sometimes we were able to find a free spot. Typically, we leave around 8 pm to find a desirable spot nearby. All parking is within walking distance to Sidewinders, so nothing too extraneous. The doors to just Sidewinders in general open at 5 pm, but if you are an avid line dancer, get there a little later so you can Boot Scootin Boogie with everyone else!
