He Is Music

Playboi Carti just dropped a new album. Big news! Now, while his music isn’t exactly my forte, I was bombarded with peers asking me to listen to this album and give it my honest take.

After waiting 5 years for a new project, here it is, “MUSIC” by Playboi Carti. This album comes 5 years after his critically acclaimed album “Whole Lotta Red” which had bangers like “Vamp Anthem” and “Sky” (this song is where the infamous “It’s the first of the month” sound comes from on TikTok). “MUSIC” is a spoken word/hip-hop/rap album with 9 features throughout (Travis Scott, the Weekend, Kendrick Lamar, Jhené Aiko, Skepta, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Ty Dolla Sign, and Young Thug).

Totaling 30 tracks and accumulating 1hr and 16 minutes of your time, this album is loud and proud. The main producers in this album are Ojivolta, Cardo and F1lthy but has other producer credits like Metro Boomin, Southside, Kanye West, and many others.

As a disclaimer, this is an Explicit album, so listeners, fair warning.

There were some leaks in 2024 which were meant to keep audiences engaged while anticipating this album, which worked. Objectively, this is a good album. One of his better ones, at that. A lot of the theming and logistics are consistent throughout the tracks in comparison to some of his other projects. My only gripe with this new album is that I could not differentiate if Carti was Future or if Future was Carti. On the contrary, Skepta being a feature was the most unexpected thing to come out of this album. I was not expecting him to EVER be on a Playboy Carti album, but alas I was proved wrong. Since he did a collaboration with the Weekend, his feature was the most predictable.

Regardless of where you stand with Playboi Carti’s music, this high energy chaos is something he has mastered with this album.
