Diverse Dining at Roanoke College

Roanoke College has truly set a high standard for offering a diverse and inclusive range of food options to cater to their students. Whether you’re a vegetarian, vegan, have celiac disease, or follow any other dietary restrictions, you’ll find their dining services accommodating and thoughtful.

One of the shining stars is Sutton Commons, the primary dining facility. Here, meals are served buffet-style with a constantly rotating menu that features plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Not only does the Commons offer a daily salad bar brimming with fresh vegetables, it also includes protein-packed additions like chickpeas and quinoa, making plant-based eating not just possible, but pleasurable.

For those with celiac disease or gluten intolerance, Roanoke College’s staff is proactive and accommodating, ensuring gluten-free options are always available. From gluten-free breads to dedicated meal stations, students can dine comfortably without the worry of cross-contamination. Chef Matt Phillips is also available for consultations, offering personalized advice and meal planning. It’s great to see institutions prioritizing the health and well-being of all their students.

If you’re always on the go, The Cavern is a fantastic quick-service spot. The Cavern offers freshly made sandwiches, wraps, and salads, including vegan and gluten-free options, making it perfect for a quick bite between classes.

A standout feature on campus is Freshëns Fresh Food Kitchen. Specializing in “fresh casual” meals. Freshëns serves up delectable rice bowls, flatbreads, and smoothies, many of which are suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Their emphasis on fresh ingredients and customizable options makes it a favorite among health-conscious students.

For those looking to grab a coffee or a light snack, Rooney’s Brews, located in the Fintel Library, not only caters to your caffeine needs but also stocks an array of vegan pastries and gluten-free goodies. It’s the perfect study spot with a comforting cup of Starbucks in hand and a tasty treat to keep your energy up.

Roanoke College seems to have a well-rounded and inclusive approach when it comes to campus dining. They’re not just filling plates; they’re fostering a community that embraces and accommodates diverse dietary needs. It’s refreshing to see such dedication to inclusivity in the campus dining experience.
