Last week, sororities and fraternities gathered to participate in Roanoke’s annual Greek Week, a multi-day event celebrating community through a series of competitions, social activities and service projects. Greek Week aims to build community and unity among the chapters on campus highlighting leadership, philanthropy and school spirit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Events ran Wednesday through Friday, and organizations competed for a chance to win the Greek Week trophies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Panhellenic and Interfraternity Council members collaborated with the Campus Activities Board to organize spirited events. Greek Week aims to build community and unity among the chapters on campus highlighting leadership, philanthropy and school spirit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Lillian Albright, a Panhellenic Delegate for Chi Omega shared, \u201cMy favorite part of Greek Week was seeing everything come together. Being in a Greek Organization is so much more than just supporting other sororities and fraternities on campus, we are a group of people who want to support and better the campus as a whole.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Participating Organizations included sororities Alpha Sigma Alpha, Chi Omega, and Delta Gamma, alongside the fraternities Pi Lambda Phi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Pi Kappa Phi, Sigma Chi and Kappa Alpha Order<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The week started off with a compelling wing night\/ lip sync battle where fraternities took the stage and showcased their dance and collaboration skills. The fraternity Pi Lambda Phi won the lip sync battle by dancing to the infamous song \u201cJudas,\u201d by Lady Gaga, which seemed to be a crowd favorite as some audience members joined the brothers onstage. Individuals attending the event were treated to various wings provided by RC dining services, kicking off a lively start to the week!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Thursday’s festivities began with a service opportunity to write letters of encouragement to senior community members. This event reinforced the philanthropic values each member of Greek life strives to live by.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cPhilanthropy has had a huge impact on my experience in Greek life in a positive way.\u201d Tasi Kapranos, a sister of Alpha Sigma Alpha states. \u201cSeeing Greek life as a whole come together to show these residents love is such a blessing!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The day ended with a volleyball tournament where the sisters of Chi Omega, Alpha Sigma Alpha, and the brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha, Pi Lambda Phi, Kappa Alpha competed in a bracket-style tournament. Members showed strong communication and teamwork throughout the competition, making each game engaging for spectators. The sisters of Chi Omega won the women\u2019s tournament, and the brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha claimed victory for the men\u2019s team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The week concluded with a game of powderpuff which brought enthusiasm and high energy to the field. Members of each sorority took on the role of football players, while fraternity members served as coaches for the teams. Every member worked to foster an environment of inclusivity, ending the festivities with excitement and community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Concluding the events, the points were tallied for each chapter, and members promptly waited for the results. Points were given throughout the week based on performance and participation in each event to determine the winners of the Greek Week trophies. Pi Lambda Phi won the Greek Week trophy for the fraternities, and the sorority Chi Omega brought home the trophy for their chapter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Greek Week concluded on a note of positivity and community, continuing traditions of collaboration and school spirit throughout the chapters.<\/p>\n
